History of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship
Who is the founder of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship?
Dr Tony Evans founded Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in the year 1976 and has since faithfully served as the senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (OCBF), overseeing its remarkable growth from a humble gathering of ten individuals in 1976 to a thriving congregation of over 10,000 members today. Under the leadership of Drs. Tony and Lois Evans, generations past and present have experienced the transformative power of discipleship through worship, fellowship, Christian education, and outreach.
The journey of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship began with a passionate young Tony Evans, who had envisioned taking the biblical message to people worldwide as an evangelist. However, in early 1976, God directed his path to a specific place known as Oak Cliff. Through the guidance of Dr. Ruben Connor from Urban Evangelical Mission and Dr. Gene Getz from Fellowship Bible Church North, who recognized the potential for a church that would impact the community through sound biblical teaching, Tony Evans was presented with a challenge. After much prayer and contemplation, he embraced this calling and, together with his supportive wife Lois, embarked on the journey of establishing Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church.
Initially, the church began with intimate bible studies in the Evans’ home, and soon grew to ten dedicated members. Rev. Crawford Loritts joined Tony Evans in this endeavor, and on June 6, 1976, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship was officially chartered as a church, with worship services held in the Evans’ residence. The congregation experienced deep Christian fellowship as they nurtured love and ministered to one another. Through God’s grace, the church continued to grow and expand.
Over the years, the vision of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship evolved and flourished. Rev. Tony Evans became Dr. Tony Evans, and under his guidance, the church embraced a Kingdom Agenda philosophy of ministry. The reach of OCBF extended beyond its physical boundaries, encompassing a national radio and television broadcast ministry. A dedicated Worship Center was established to accommodate the growing congregation of over 10,000 members and to house the diverse range of more than 100 ministries that actively impact individuals locally and internationally.
Additionally, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship’s commitment to faith-based social outreach led to collaborations with public schools and the broader community. The Education Center became home to a distinguished private Christian school, while the Fellowship Center and Outreach Center provided essential spaces for fellowship and outreach initiatives. The church’s influence extended further with the development of two shopping centers and The Grove, all situated on the remarkable 145-acre land where Dr. Tony Evans initially stepped out in faith.
Today, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship stands as a testament to God’s blessings and the unwavering commitment of its leaders and congregation. Through dynamic ministries, comprehensive teaching, and a heart for impacting lives, OCBF continues to fulfill its mission, spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, empowering believers to embrace their divine authority, and demolishing destructive forces that operate in people’s lives.
